Major Benjamin P. Neff was raised in Kansas and graduated from Wichita State University in 2004. Major Neff attended Officer Candidate School and commissioned into the USMC in November, 2007.
After graduating The Basic School, 2nd Lieutenant Neff attended the Basic Communications Officers Course in Quantico, VA and was then assigned to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18 in Okinawa, Japan. He served as the Squadron Adjutant from January 2009 through February 2010. In February, 2010, 1stLt Neff was assigned as detachment commander for the MWCS-18 Communications Detachment to Cobra Gold ’10 in Korat, Thailand.
Lieutenant Neff then executed PCA orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron 172 and served as Squadron S-6 and Comm Platoon Commander from March 2010 until May 2012. From November 2010 until December 2011, Lieutenant Neff also served concurrently as Headquarters and Services Company Commander. During this time, he planned, oversaw, and participated in communications support and airbase life support operations throughout the Pacific Region to include Humanitarian Operations in Japan and the Philippines. He graduated Expeditionary Warfare School (Non-resident) in June, 2011.
In June, 2012, Captain Neff executed orders to Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA in accordance with the Commandant’s Career Level Education Board. At NPS, he studied National Security Affairs for Southeast Asia to become a SE Asia FAO (MOS 8248). Beginning in August, 2013, Captain Neff attended Vietnamese Language Training at the State Department’s Foreign Services Institute in Arlington, Va.
From September 2014 through September 2015, Captain Neff conducted regional language and culture immersion in Hanoi, Vietnam and throughout Southeast Asia, participating in Air Force Exercise ‘Pacific Angel’ and Navy Exercise ‘Pacific Partnership.’ During this period, Captain Neff traveled to 15 countries or special administrative zones throughout Asia and met with each US Embassy Country Team as part of his educational program.
In October 2015, Captain Neff PCSed to 3d Marine Division, Okinawa Japan to serve as Communications Company’s Executive Officer. In June, 2016 Captain Neff became Communications Company Operations Officer. From September 2016 through September 2017, Captain Neff assumed command of Communications Company, supporting communications for 3DMARDIV exercises throughout the Pacific. Captain Neff graduated Command and Staff College (Non-resident) in June 2017.
In October 2017, Major Neff was promoted and deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan to as an individual augment serve as the Key Leader Engagements Officer for the NATO Special Operations Component Command - Afghanistan. Upon return to 3DMARDIV in May, 2018 Major Neff served in the Division G-6 until his rotation.
Major Neff executed PCS orders to Korea and served as the Deputy G-6, MARFORK, from July 2018 to June 2020. In March, 2019, Major Neff was appointed as the MARFORK Command SARC.
Major Neff served as Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28 Operations Officer from July 2020 until May 2021 when he assumed duties as the squadron Executive Officer.
Major Neff’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
