In May 2003, Recruit Housand reported to MCRD Parris Island, SC for recruit training as a contract PFC. After completion of Marine Combat Training and MOS school in November 2003, PFC Housand reported to 2nd and 2nd
Long Shoreman Platoon in Wilmington, NC where he served as a Landing Support Specialist and was subsequently
promoted to LCpl in the Marine Corps Reserves.
Candidate Housand reported to Officer Candidates School in June 2005 and was commissioned as a 2ndLt in August 2005. After graduating from The Basic School in March 2006, he reported to Naval Aviation Flight Training in Pensacola, FL. Upon completion of flight training, lstLt Housand was designated a Naval Aviator in February 2008 before reporting to HMLAT-303 in Camp Pendleton, CA for UH-IN training.
lstLt Housand was assigned to HMLA-167 at MCAS New River, NC in August 2008 to begin the UH-IN combat flight training syllabus. While there, he deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom from February to August 2009 as a combat co-pilot and Flight Line OIC. Shortly after re-deployment, Capt Housand was assigned to VMM-263 (REIN) at MCAS New River where he deployed with the 22nd MEU in support of operations in Libya, Yemen, and the Horn of Africa from March 2011 to February 2012 and earned designations as Utility Helicopter Commander through Weapons Training Officer and served as the Flight Equipment OIC.
Upon his return from VMM-263 (REIN), Capt Housand continued to served with HMLA-167. After his conversion to the new UH-1Y, he earned the MAWTS-1 evaluated and designated title of Night Systems Instructor before deploying to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from May to November 2013 as one of the lead pilots in the squadron while serving as the aircraft Maintenance Department Quality Assurance Officer and then the Operations Department Future Operations Officer.
In March 2014, Capt Housand reported to HMLA-773 at Robins Air Force Base, GA where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer, a Night Systems Instructor, and lead UH-1Y conversion instructor, and was designated as the squadron UH-1Y Assistant NATOPS Instructor.
After a successful tour with HMLA-773, Maj Housand was assigned to 6th Marine Corps District HQ at MCRD Parris Island, SC where he served as the Aviation Assistant for Officer Procurement from March 2017 to July 2020. There, he withstood the challenge of screening and selecting potential Marine Officer candidates with an emphasis on the Marine Aviation mission.
In July 2020, Maj Housand reported to MWSS-271 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC, serving as the Airfield Operations Company Commander before becoming the Squadron Executive Officer in May 2021.
Maj Housand graduated from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a degree in Biology in 2005. Additionally, he graduated from Expeditionary Warfare School in 2014 and Marine Corps Command and Staff College in 2019 with honors.
His personal decorations include the Air Medal with Strike numeral 7, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
