Sergeant Major Jorge I. Moreno

Sergeant Major Jorge I. Moreno enlisted in the Marine Corps in January of 1998. He reported to recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina in January 1998. After recruit training he reported to the School of Infantry where he was assigned the Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) of 0311, Rifleman.

In June 1998, Private First Class Moreno reported to 3d Battalion 8th Marines, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In April 1998, Lance Corporal Moreno deployed with Battalion Landing Team 3/8, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, to Kosovo, in support of Operation Noble Anvil, Joint Guardian, and Operation Avid Response in Turkey. He was promoted to Corporal in August 2000 and deployed as a fire team leader to Okinawa, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP). Corporal Moreno was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in July 2002.

Corporal Moreno reenlisted in the Marine Corps in March of 2003 and was assigned to 3d Battalion 6th Marines, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. During this assignment, he deployed as a squad leader to Djibouti, Africa; Jalalabad, Afghanistan; and Al Qaim, Iraq in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. He was promoted to Sergeant in July 2005.

In December 2006, Sergeant Moreno was assigned to Division Schools, Headquarters Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California where he served as a Military Operations Urban Terrain Instructor.

Sergeant Moreno reported to Drill Instructor School, Parris Island, South Carolina in October 2007. Upon completion of DI School, Sergeant Moreno was assigned to Echo Company, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, where he completed eight training cycles, serving as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor. During this assignment, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant in January 2009. Staff Sergeant Moreno later served as 2d Recruit Training Battalion’s Drill Master from June 2010 to November 2011.

In March 2012, Staff Sergeant Moreno reported to 2d Battalion 7th Marines, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) Twentynine Palms, California. Staff Sergeant Moreno attended Infantry Unit Leaders Course in March 2012 aboard Camp Pendleton, California. In September 2012, Staff Sergeant Moreno deployed to Sangin, Afghanistan as a platoon sergeant, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In March of 2014, Staff Sergeant Moreno reported to the Officer Candidates School, where he served as a sergeant instructor, platoon sergeant, and physical training instructor chief. He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in June 2015.

In March of 2017, Gunnery Sergeant Moreno reported to 1st Battalion 8th Marines, where he served as the Bravo Company Gunnery Sergeant. He deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP).

In February of 2019, First Sergeant Moreno reported to 2d Maintenance Battalion, where he served as the Engineer Maintenance Company First Sergeant, Motor Transport Maintenance Company First Sergeant and Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant.

In February of 2022, Sergeant Major Moreno reported to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28, where he currently serves as the Squadron Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Moreno’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, with two gold stars in lieu of 3rd award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with combat distinguishing device and one gold star in lieu of 2nd award, and the Combat Action Ribbon with two gold stars in lieu of 3rd award.
