Sergeant Major Steven K. Pereira 2d LAAD Bn Sergeant Major

Sergeant Major Pereira enlisted in the Marine Corps in July 1998 and completed Recruit Training at MCRD, Parris Island, SC. During his time at MCRD Parris Island he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class for obtaining the distinguished title of platoon Honor Graduate. Upon completion of Recruit Training, Sergeant Major Pereira was transferred to Camp Geiger, NC to attend Marine Combat Training (MCT). After completion of MCT, Sergeant Major Pereira was transferred to Ft. Leonardwood, MO to obtain the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of 1345, Heavy Equipment Operator. Once the MOS of 1345 was obtained, Sergeant Major Pereira reported to his first duty station at 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC. 

While attached to 8th Engineer Support Battalion Sergeant Major Pereira served as a Heavy Equipment Operator. During this tour he was promoted to Lance Corporal and subsequently to Corporal and served in the billets of Squad Leader and Training NCO. In January 2001 Sergeant Major Pereira deployed to Saint Lucia Island in support of humanitarian assistance for the local population. Sergeant Major Pereira obtained the rank of Sergeant prior to re-enlisting and made a lateral move to MOS 6283 Safety Equipment Mechanic.

Sergeant Major Pereira was transferred to Pensacola in October 2002 to obtain the MOS 6283. Upon completion of his second MOS school, Sergeant Major Pereira received orders to VMAQ-2, MCAS Cherry Point, NC and served as an ejection seat mechanic, NCOIC, Quality Assurance Representative and Martial Arts Instructor. While assigned to VMAQ-2, Sergeant Major Pereira deployed in July to Iraq in support of OIF. In May 2010, Sergeant Major Pereira was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and conducted two more deployments to Iraq in support of OIF. 

April 2008, Sergeant Major Pereira received orders to MCRD, Parris Island to attend drill instructor school. Upon completion of Drill Instructor school, Sergeant Major Pereira was assigned to 3RD Recruit Training Battalion where he assumed the duties of Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor. 

July 2018, Sergeant Major Pereira received orders to MACG-28, 2d MAW, MCAS Cherry Point, NC 2D LAAD BN, to serve as the Battery First Sergeant, Alpha Battery. November 2018, First Sergeant Pereira was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major and will serve as the Battalion Sergeant Major. 

His personal awards include: Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Fourth award), and Navy Achievement Medal (third award).
