Sergeant Major Ricky D. Hall enlisted in the United States Marines Corps in October 1986.  He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina.  Graduating from recruit training with the rank of Private First Class, he attended the Unit Diary Course at Camp Johnson, North Carolina at received a primary Military Occupational Specialty of 0131.

Sergeant Major Hall’s first assignment was with 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he served as a Battalion Unit Diary Clerk and Pay Chief.  While serving with 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, he deployed on two Western Pacific tours with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and then with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.  During his tour, he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal and Corporal.

In March 1990, Sergeant Major Hall joined the Inspector & Instructor Staff at in Raleigh, North Carolina, and served as the Reserve and Active Duty Unit Diary and Pay Chief. In July 1991, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and in April 1993, transferred to the Selected Marine Corps Reserve.

Reentering the Marine Corps in July 1995, Sergeant Major Hall attended Aviation Maintenance School, and earned a new primary Military Occupational Specialty of 6046.  He subsequently received Orders to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron-31 at MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina where he served as a Maintenance Administration Clerk in the Ground Support Equipment section.

In July 1998, Sergeant Major Hall volunteered for Recruiting Duty.  Upon graduating from Recruiting School, he received Orders to Recruiting Station New York, and was subsequently assigned as a Canvassing Recruiter to Recruiting Substation Flatbush.  In April 2000, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and in March of 2001, he was assigned to the Recruiting Station’s Officers Selection Office in Garden City, New York.

In January 2002, Sergeant Major Hall joined Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 3 at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina.  As the Squadron’s Data Analyst, Sergeant Major Hall deployed to the Western Pacific in May 2002, and in January 2004, he transferred to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron-212, at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. As the Squadron’s Maintenance Administration Chief, he deployed to Korea, Australia, Hawaii, and Okinawa. In September 2005, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

Sergeant Major Hall was then transferred to Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona for duty with the Marine Attack Squadron-311.  Sergeant Major Hall served as the Squadron’s Maintenance Administration Chief/Squadron GySgt and, in 2008, deployed with the Squadron in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.  In December 2009, he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant.

In February 2010, Sergeant Major Hall joined Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28.  During his tour, Sergeant Major Hall has served as the First Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company, Company “A”, and Company “B”.   In February 2012, deployed in support Operation ENDURING FREEDOM with Company “A”, and in January 2013, he deployed as the Sergeant Major of the Marine Air Control Group 28 OEF 13.1 Detachment. Upon his return from OEF in July of 2014, Sergeant Major Hall served as the Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28 Sergeant Major until May of 2014.  In May of 2014 Sergeant Major Hall severed as the Sergeant Major of Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron 28 until his reassignment to MTACS-28 in June 2017.

Sergeant Major Hall’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with four Gold Stars in lieu of fifth award.
